Big Changes

My intentions were so good - a new posting of a chicken I have painted every day.  Reality is that it all takes so much time.  As it is I am usually behind on paintings for exhibits, paintings commission, and new directions and animals I want to paint.  So I have decided to combine a website and a blog.  The new address is - Please stop by!

Polish Chicken

Yesterday's chicken was a Polish and today's is another. They are one of my favorite models...so glamorous!

Every Day!

Not sure I should have titled this blog A Chicken Every Day!  Every day certainly became hard when I was so busy hanging my paintings and the work of 10 other artists all over Brattleboro for Strolling of the Heifers, painting commissions, getting ready for Art Under the Birches, Grafton Music Festival, Wickford Art Festival and the Welcome Center in Guilford Vermont.  That's a lot to even list here!

Here is another chicken and I do have hopes of becoming more regular about my postings here...or changing the name of this blog!

MV Ag Fair

All summer agricultural fairs are wonderful but unfortunately that is when I am so busy with weekend art festivals so I don't get to go to them enough.  Daughter Jody was visiting on Martha's Vineyard six or so years agao and took a photo of a very distinguished Polish chicken and this painting came about.

Romeo

A new painting today.  Romeo, a romantic rooster!  He will be part of Farm Art in Brattleboro and hung at The Works Cafe.

Happy Memories

Fun to go back and find my old chicken paintings.  I can always remember the actual time painting my paintings.  These two roosters were for a show at Windham Art Gallery.  The title became a bit controversial and I think I considered changes before it sold but here it is with the original name.

Morris

A chicken painting every day really means a chicken painting posted as often as I can!  Morris below is another one from the way back.

Saturday's Rooster

Found this photo of a rooster that is quite old too.  Beginning years of painting I was singularily concerned with painting itself and not recording the paintings or keeping track where or when they were sold.  So no facts on this one.

Hen feathers!

Not sure what kind of chicken this is but sometimes I think I paint chickens that are a bit of this and a bit of that for breeds.  More concerned with the "illustration" quality of my images than being overly realistic.

WAG Rooster

Continuing with old chicken paintings.  This is a rooster from a fundraiser for Windham Art Gallery.  Sadly the gallery closed a couple of years ago and is missed by artists and visitors to Brattleboro these days.

Worldly Chick #1

This is the first Wordly Chick from around the same time as Matthew's Rooster, 2006ish.  I love painting it and am working on a new one for this summer season.

The Chicken That Started It All

Matthew's Rooster, 2006

This was one of the first chickens I painted, a gift for my son Matthew.  As I often do I revisit my reference photos and paint animals over again.  On rare occasions I will not let myself use an animal again for a painting, probably because I was frustrated and not able to accomplish what I wanted.  Each time I paint an animal again I feel I find new discoveries about the animal or about painting.  Unfortunately I don't always take photos but I know I have done others of this rooster and they are out in the world somewhere!
